Buy, use and throw away: the maxim of a world in which objects have a very short life. Shop shelves empty and rubbish tips fill. Alicia, the first-hand witness of this lamentable phenomenon, watches her parents carelessly ridding themselves of objects with no more than a few months of life. But not all is lost while there are people like Tomás, an old scrapman and friend of the girl, who gets her involved in the estimable art of recycling. Tomás shows our heroine how to appreciate the true value of things, to the extent of being able to fix an old radio with her own hands.
