Théodore, the vet and mayor of a small French town occupied during WWII, takes in Claude, a 9 year-old son of disappeared parents who arrives with a group of gypsies come to town for the grape-picking season. Their situation is complicated following prohibition by the Vichy Government of the free circulation of people in the country, not to mention the persecution they suffer from the Gestapo. Despite opposition from many of the locals, Théodore lends them a piece of his family’s land so that they can set up home. But gypsies have a nomadic spirit.
Latest film from the “official” chronicler of the gypsy people, Tony Gatlif, who for the last two decades has directed titles like Latcho Drom (1993), Gadjo dilo (1997), Exils (2004) or Transylvania (2006).
