EN EL HOYO (2006)
“El hoyo is the pretext... What you find is life”. A Mexican legend says that the Devil seeks souls to stop bridges from falling down. This film shadows several people working on construction of the second storey of Mexico City’s peripheral freeway. But in fact the whole thing is nothing but pure pretext, given that the idea is to look at the everyday routine, dreams and extraordinary dignity with which they live the humour, romance and little moments culminating in providing the Devil with the ingredients he needs to keep the bridge up. Chabelo, Agustín, “El Guapo”, Vicencio, Natividad... star in this tale of workers and a bridge, of people in their day-to-day lives, of a city and its inhabitants.
