SI LE VENT SOULÈVE LES SABLES

SI LE VENT SOULÈVE LES SABLES (2006)

On one side is the desert, eating away at the land. Interminable drought. The lack of water. On the other, the threat of war. The village well has run dry and the livestock is dying. Trusting their instinct, most of the inhabitants head southwards, while Rahne, the only one in his village who knows how to read and write, decides to head east with his three children and his wife, Mouna. A few sheep and goats and Chamelle, his dromedary, are their only riches. Rahne and his family travel through hostile lands under a blazing sun on what seems like a neverending journey. The veteran Belgian director Marion Hänsel, maker of the films like The Cruel Embrace (1987), Between Heaven and Earth (1992) or Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (1995), directs this story of the search for the most valuable necessity: water.
